Cheriya Pally, literally means small church, is dedicated to Saint Mary. Built in 1579 by the local
Rajah, it is one of the few old churches located at
Kottayam in
Kerala.
In this church, one can see both the Christian and the Hindu combinational design. The elegant frontage with galleries, pillars, cornices and pediments seem to be influenced by the Portuguese. There are paintings of Biblical and non Biblical themes.
Kottayam Valiyapally is nearby.
