Kotkapura is a small town situated 11 km south of
Faridkot, in
Faridkot District,
Punjab. It is a major industrial center and a flourishing grain and cotton market in the district. Kotkapura is located 46 km north of
Bathinda.
History says that Kotkapura was founded by Kapura, one of the forefathers of the princely ruling family of Faridkot State, at the insistence of Bhai Bhagtu, a famous Hindu ascetic. His descendants ruled Kotkapura until the 18th century when the British wrested control of the town and bestowed it to the then raja of Faridkot, Pahar Singh.
Gurdwara Godavarisar Patshahi and Gurdwara Patshahi Das are the two major shrines in the town.
Amritsar International Airport serves Kotkapura. Kotkapura Railway Station is situated on the Bathinda-Ferozepur line of
Northern Railways. National Highway 15 passes through Kotkapura.
