Kosambi




Kosambi is a major Buddhist site located close to Allahabad. It was the capital of the Vamsa kingdom in the ancient period. Kosambi is an archeological site directly associated with Buddha. Kosambi houses one of Ashoka’s pillars and the ruins of the Ghositarama, built during Buddha’s period. Although the massive and ancient ramparts are in ruins, they are a significant part of history. The antiquities excavated from Kosambi are showcased in Allahabad Museum. Situated on Kamala Nehru Road, the museum is easily accessible from here. Apart from this museum, the Archeological Museum of Allahabad University also displays the antiquities found at Kosambi. Allahabad Junction Railway Station is the nearest railhead and the nearest airport is Varanasi Airport.
