Koonankurissu, one among the places of faith and worship of Christians, is situated at Mattancherry in
Ernakulam District. Literally the word ‘Koonankurissu’ means the ‘Hunchbacked cross.’ The place is famed for a vow taken by the Malankara Syrian Christians in front of a big cross, which paved the way for the division of Christians in
Kerala into Roman Catholics and Malankara Syrian Christians.
Mattancherry is around 10 km from Ernakulam, which holds the nearest railheads.
