Kongarpuliyankulam

Jain heritage center



Kongarpuliyankulam is a Jain heritage center situated 15 km south-west of Madurai. It has eight caves within the area of a single rock formation. Bramhi inscriptions of the second century can be viewed on the rounded edge of the roof in one of the caves. A rock with an image of a Tirthankar seated in padmasana is a significant archeological element.
