A government agency, District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) functions as an autonomous body under the Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC). The Council was setup to promote Kollam as the gateway to the intriguing backwaters of Kerala.
DTPC arranges exclusive day tours and holiday packages in Kollam and nearby districts. The main office of DTPC is situated at the Guest House Complex in Ashramam Picnic Village, 2 km from Kollam. DTPC usually conducts backwater cruises from the boat jetty near Kollam Adventure Park.
DTPC has tourist information counters at Kollam Junction Railway Station and KSRTC Bus Station. Hotel reservation facilities are also available at the counters, which are open from 08:00 to 17:30 hrs.
