Kolkata Port is India's only port with two types of dock system. One is the Kolkata dock system at
Kolkata for river based trade and the other is the Haldia dock complex, Haldia for sea based trade. The Kolkata dock is situated on the left bank of the
river Hooghly.
Kolkata Dock System (KDS) consists of the Kidderpore Dock (KPD), and Netaji Subhas Dock (NSD), Petroleum Wharves at Budge Budge and anchorages at Saugor, Diamond Harbour and Sandheads. It has 28 berths, 8 buoys/moorings, 3 dry docks and 6 petroleum wharves.
Haldia Dock Complex (HDC) consists of twelve berths, three oil jetties, three barge jetties, and anchorage for lighter aboard ship vessels (LASH).
The port has all modern facilities to handle and transport various types of cargo. Kolkata Port is well connected to the main places of the country by road, rail and air.
