Kodunkundreesar Temple




Kodunkundreesar Temple is located at Tirukodunkundram, Sivagangai District. The presiding deity of the temple is Lord Shiva known by the name Kodunkundreesar. Covering an area of 30 acres, the temple is adorned with a Rajagopuram and five vimanas. There are also worship places for Goddess Kuyilamudha nayagi, Nallamangaipaagaswamy (kalyana kolam) Viswanathar and Kodunkunra Naathar. It is said that saint Sambandar has contributed pathigams in praise of the lord. The main festival is the Brahmotsavam celebrated in the month of Chittirai(April-May). Kartikai Deepam, Arudra Darisanam, Vinayaka Chaturthi and Navratri are also celebrated in a grand manner. The nearest railway station is Karaikudi railway station, 42 km away.
