Kinnaur Kailash Range




Kinnaur Kailash Range is perched at an average elevation of 6,050 m above mean sea level in Kinnaur Valley. It is the most spectacular range in the Himalayas. The pilgrimage around the Kinnaur Kailash (Kinnaur Kailash Parikrama) is considered holy by both the Hindus and the Buddhists. According to Hindu Mythology Kinnaur Kailash is the legendary home of Lord Shiva who is said to retire here each winter to meditate. It has a huge Shivling, which is the symbolic representation of Lord Shiva. Baspa Valley (Sangla Valley) is one of the prime attraction. Some of the prominent peaks in Kinnaur Kailash Range are Jorkaden Peak(6,474 m), Kinnaur Kailash Peak (6,500 m), Phawarang Peak(6,349 m) and Saro Peak(6,080 m). Kinnaur Kailash Range trek begins from the charming village of Kinnaur District, Kalpa. The best time for hiking is from May to September. The nearest railway station and airport are at Shimla.
