Khong Kepang Kennyu is an important harvest festival of
Assam. This festival is associated with the first harvest of the ripening paddy. On this day at dawn, an old woman from the village goes to the field for the harvesting of new rice. She offers food and rice beer to the deity of crops. Then she cuts some rice ears and carries them to the village. The new rice is stored in the granary. It is considered inauspicious to harvest the new paddy without the observance of this ritual. This festival is similar to Lakhimi Ana.
