Khichri Amavasya is a typical Kashmiri festival celebrated in the month of Posh, which falls in either December or January.
It is believed that Kashmir was the abode of '
Yakshas' in the ancient times. On the festival day, people prepare khichri (cooked rice with pulse and ghee) and invite the 'yaksha' to eat it. It is believed that during the night the yaksha comes and tastes the Khichri.
