Kharkhauda town lies on the western side of the road going from
Meerut to
Hapur. It is believed that the stables of the rajas of Hastinapur had been located in this ancient town. Kharkhauda derives its name from the word 'kharak,' meaning a 'stall.' Another tradition connects it with Khara and Dushana, the brothers of
Ravana. The town began to flourish in the time of Humayun.
