Khanqah of Shah Hamadan is the first mosque ever built in
Srinagar, situated on the banks of
Jhelum River, between the third and fourth bridge, in
Jammu and Kashmir. Built in 1395, the mosque is a wooden structure which features beautifully carved eaves and hanging bells. The interior of Khanqah is richly carved.
Shah Hamadan who came to Kashmir from Persia in the 13th century, stayed here for many years. He was responsible for the spread of Islamic religion in Kashmir. Khanqah-i-Mualla, on the banks of the Jhelum, was the spot where he used to offer prayers. A mosque established by him at Shey attracts large number of devotees.
