Kesava Temple

Kesava Temple is situated at Andarkot in Baramulla District of Jammu and Kashmir. This is an ancient temple with great architectural importance. Due to age and neglect, now the shrine is more or less in a dilapidated state.

The main attractions of the temple are the sculptured reliefs on two faces of the pilaster of the stair. One of the sculptures contains the image of Lord Vishnu. The four armed deity is seated on a cushioned throne and an attendant, probably a female, is standing on his left side. The other relief on the front panel shows a group of three figures - Vishnu seated between his two consorts. Most of the sculptures found in the temple date back to the 7th and 8th century.

Andarkot is about a mile away from Sumbal. By road, one can reach Andarkot from Baramulla. The nearest railway station is at Jammu and the airport is at Srinagar.
