Kazhakuttam, also spelt Kazhakkoottam, is a tranquil residential locale situated 15 km north of
Thiruvananthapuram, in
Kerala. This coastal area is easily accessible as the
National Highway 47 cuts through the place.
Legend says that the place got its name from Kalakkodu Maharishi. It is also said that the place has many ‘kazhakams’ and hence the name.
This serene village with its breathtaking view of the plains and greenery is a feast for the eyes. Kazhakuttam is famous for many illustrious exponents of Kalaripayattu, the ancient martial art of Kerala.
Places of tourist interest are Sree Mahadeva Temple, Kazhakuttam Palace and a cave temple. Pallipuram, Madavoorpara and Kaniyapuram are some of the major tourist centers near Kazhakuttam.
Kazhakuttam Railway Station lies on the Ernakulam-Thiruvananthapuram line of the Southern Railways. Trivandrum International Airport is about 15 km to the south.
