Kavalam

Kavalam is a pleasing village located on the AlappuzhaChanganacherry route in Alappuzha District. This picturesque village with the serene backwaters is a part of Kuttanad, once famed as the granary of Kerala. The Pampa River flows through the village and ends its journey merging into the Vembanad Lake. All these provide an ideal location for one to spend the holidays.

Kavalam brings to mind contemporary Malayalam and Sanskrit theater due to Kavalam Narayana Panikkar, a famous playwright and director who hails from this place. Kavalam is also famous for the boat club and boat races. The Elephant March at Kavalam in January every year is fascinating.

The State Water Transport Department operates boat services on the Changanacherry-Alappuzha route, touching Kidangara and Kavalam. Buses ply frequently from Alappuzha and Changanacherry.
