Kathaprasangam




Kathaprasangam is an art of story telling in Kerala. This art evolved during the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. The main purpose of this art was to create awareness about social evils.

Kathaprasangam involves an artist who narrates a story in a very dramatic manner, accompanied with music provided by a small orchestra. The background music is usually light or semi-classical. The theme of the story usually revolves around the eradication of social evils and the betterment of the lower classes. These stories are borrowed from the current events and famous novels.

Kathaprasangam is generally performed during religious or festive occasions.
