Kateeb is person who solemnizes wedding ceremonies in the
Lakshadweep Islands. The aristocracy and the upper middle classes have their marriage ceremony performed at the bride's house, with the Kateeb in attendance. The weddings of the lower classes take place at the Kateeb's office.
