A folk entertainment of Southern
Karnataka, Karapala or Jangamakathe presents folk literature along with music and dance.
The chief narrator of Karapala is called 'Jangama'. He is the star attraction of presentation and he enacts the story. He wears a saffron robe with a red cloth around his waist and an embellished headgear. 'Gummate' is the main musical instrument used and for rhythmic support, they also use cymbals.
Karapala is played in places such as Arsikere, Tiptur, Hassan and some parts across the Sahyadri Range.
