Kapotheswara Temple

Kapotheswara Temple is a highly revered shrine in Chezerla of Guntur District. It is considered sacred both by the Hindus and the Buddhists.

The temple is noted for its unique architectural style, conforming both to the Chaitya hall designs and the Silpa Sastra rules. The presiding deity is Lord Shiva under the name Lord Kapotheswara, after the famous story of Sibi – a generous king – who sacrificed a part of his own body to save a Kapothar (pigeon) from an eagle.

A major draw is here during the Mahashivaratri festival.
