Located on the top of an isolated rocky hill, the old fort at Kanthkot in
Gujarat has a 5 km radius. This 8th century fort was the capital the Kathis, a Sun-worshipping tribe. With time, the fort came under the control of various dynasties such as Chavda, Solanki and Vaghela. In 1816, the British captured Kanthkot and destroyed large parts of the fort. Ruins of the ramparts of the fort, Kanthadnath Temple, Jain Temple and a Sun Temple on the hill near the fort are of great architectural value.
