Lying between
Gulmarg and
Srinagar, Kanihama is a village in Beerwah area of
Badgam District. It is 15 km west of Srinagar, the summer capital of
Jammu and Kashmir. The place was an important trade center during the Dogra (a race of hill
Rajputs in India) rule from 1846 to 1947. Woven Pashmina shawls or Kani shawls are famous in this region. The government has established a shawl weaving center to promote the Kani art. The
tomb of Zia-Ud-Din Bukhari is located here.
