Kangra Art Gallery, located near Kotwali Bazar in
Dharamsala, is a treasure trove of ancient arts and crafts.
It primarily displays the artifacts, which date back to the 5th century. Significant of the exhibits are ancient pottery, tapestries and anthropological items. A shamina once used by the Raja Sansar Chand, carved posts, lintels and jails are among the diverse items.
A library is attached, and there is a section dedicated to contemporary artists, sculptors and photographers. Also included in the collections are embroidered costumes, woodcarvings, coins, manuscripts and jewelry of the tribal people.
The gallery is open from Tuesdays to Sundays from 10:00 to 17:00 hrs, and the entry is free.
