Kaneri Hill

Kaneri is a sacred and picturesque hill situated only a mile away from Kolhapur in Maharashtra. It is the abode of Lord Shiva, where a Shiva-Pindi (deity of Shiva) was installed by a Lingayat Priest during the 14th century. And now the original mandir is called Hemadpanti which has 2 small mandaps, a big Nandi built on engraved stone-pillars and a deep well, which are very attractive. In the vicinity of the hill also lies the tomb of a Muslim priest, Mirasaheb who was a great devotee of Lord Shiva, which is also equally worshipped. Thousands of devotees from Maharashtra and Karnataka throng here on shivratri. This hill and its vicinity are really worth visiting.

Kolhapur is on the national highway between Pune and Bangalore, about 450 km away from Mumbai. It is well linked to other nearby towns and cities by road. It has its own railway station and bus station. The nearest airport is Ujailwadi airport (10 km).
