Kandaswamy Temple




Kandaswamy Temple is situated at Cheyyur, near Madurantakam, in Kanchipuram District of Tamil Nadu.

This 11th century temple is dedicated to Lord Kandaswamy (Lord Muruga). The presiding deity here is enshrined, along with his consorts Valli and Deivanai, with his Vel and his flag.

Most noteworthy feature of the temple is that its construction is in the shape of Tamil letter ‘Aum’. It is here Saint Chidambara Swamigal attained his Jeeva Samadhi on the day of Vaikasi Visakam. Guru Puja to the Swamigal is performed in the morning at his samadhi, located near the temple.
