Situated on
Agra-Delhi Highway, Kanch Mahal is a two-storeyed mansion built around 1605-1619. Lying east of the southern (principal) gateway of Akbar's Tomb at Sikandara, it was once used as ladies resort and by Jehangir as royal Shikargah (hunting lodge).
It is a square building with a central square hall and four square rooms in the four corners. On the first floor there are series of halls and rooms overlooking the central hall on the ground floor. There is a massive central portal on the southern and northern facades, which are identical.
The building is a fine example of Mughal domestic architecture. The whole structure is made of brick and is externally carved with red sandstone. It is adorned with floral and geometric designs, motifs and mosaic and tile works.
