Kanakagiri




Kanakagiri is an ancient town located in Koppal District of Karnataka. It is about 16 km south-west of Naoli and 40 km north-east of Koppal.

During the reign of Ashoka, this place was known by the name Suvarnagiri, which means 'golden mountain'. It was also the chief town of the Bedar Rajas, during the Vijayanagar period.

The place is renowned for its ancient temples and wells. Major points of attraction include the temple built in Chola style and Kanakachalapathi Temple. Excursions to Siddapur, Erur (13 km) and Gangavathi will be an enchanting experience.

The nearest airport is Hubli Airport. Koppal Railway Station is the nearest railhead. Regular buses connect Kanakagiri with Hampi, Raichur and Anegundi.
