Kalyanasundareswarar Temple is an ancient
Shivasthalam situated at Tiruvelvikkudi, near
Mayiladuthurai, in
Nagapattinam District of
Tamil Nadu. The temple is considered as the 23rd of the Tevara Stalams in Chola Nadu situated to the north of the
Cauvery River. Dedicated to
Lord Shiva, the temple enshrines Kalyanasundareswarar as the presiding deity along with his divine consort Parimalasugandha Nayaki.
The temple has a three tiered Rajagopuram with two prakarams. The niche images on the sanctum include those of Lord Ganesh, Nataraja, Lord Dakshinamurthy, Lingodbhava, Ardhanariswara, Chandrasekharar and Sage Agastya.
It is said that Sundarar and Sambandar had sung of this shrine.
Kalyanasundareswarar Temple features several inscriptions from the period of Sembian Mahadevi and Rajaraja Cholan and Parantaka Cholan.
Arudra Darisanam and Mahashivaratri are the major festivals celebrated here amid much religious fervor. Thousands of devotees visit the shrine every year.
