Kallai is an important industrial town lying in the coastal area of
Kozhikode District in
Kerala. The place is among the major centers of state’s timber industry. Once it was the largest trading centre of timber in the Asian continent.
Kallai by the banks of the Kallai River is around 6 km from Kozhikode. A steel bridge, which was constructed by the British, is still intact here.
Madras-Kozhikode Trunk Road, which starts from Chennai, touches Kallai on its way. Kallayi Railway Station managed by the Southern Railways is the local railhead. Calicut Airport is the nearest airport.
