Kalashtami

Kalashtami is a festival that falls on the eighth day of the second half of the month of Kartik. The legend is that on this day angry Kala Bhairav, a creation of Lord Shiva, chopped off one of the five heads of Lord Brahma and proceeded to Benares. Since the presiding deity of Benares is Kala Bhairav, the devotees throng here to celebrate this day by fasting and prayers.
