A pioneer classical dance institution of
Kolkata, the Kalamandalam was founded in 1968 with the objective of helping performing artists. It imparts lessons in
bharatanatyam,
mohiniyattam,
kathakali and
kuchipudi through its six centers. The institution conducts workshops in bharatanatyam, mohiniattam and kathakali in Kolkata and abroad and organizes an annual dance and music festival in December-January every year. Hostel facility is available.
The Kalamandalam has subcenters in Gariahat, Jodhpur Park, Golf Garden (Tollygunge), Behala, Salt Lake, Rishra and Sukhia Row (Chaltabagan).
