Kakkoor Kalavayal

Kalavayal, literally means cattle market, is a traditional post-harvest festival of farmers. It is celebrated at Kakkoor, which is 40 km south of Kochi, in Kerala.

As per local legends, this festival is celebrated to memorize the Goddess sisters of Edapara and Ambassery temples, who meet once in a year. It generally falls in the Malayalam month of Kumbham (February-March).

The celebrations last for four days, and the festival culminates with the famous Maramadi Mahotsavam. Folk art performances, music concerts and elephant pageants are the other accompaniments of the festival. Besides, agricultural products and implements are exhibited.
