Founded by Kahna, a Rajput of the Nur clan, Kahnuwan is an ancient town in
Gurdaspur District, located around 20 km from
Gurdaspur. The ancient buildings are symbolic representations of the antiquity of the town. Kahnuwan was the pargana headquarters of the
Mughal dynasty.
