Kadampuzha Sri Parvati Temple is an ancient Bhagavathi shrine located at
Kadampuzha, a famous pilgrim center in
Malappuram District of
Kerala. The temple is believed to have been consecrated by
Sree Sankaracharya, a great philosopher, in 818 A D.
The presiding deity is Goddess Parvati under the name of 'kirati'. The image is made of panchaloha. The temple possesses its own dhyana slokam (main mantra). An important feature here is Poomoodal, offering of flowers of thecchi (Ixora indica).
This temple attracts a large number of devotees during its annual festival. This grand festival features a host of cultural programs such as Kathakali and traditional percussion ensembles. The core theme of Kathakali is the story of Kirata incarnation of Shiva and Parvati, which is the story behind the origin of the temple.
Kadampuzha is 15 km from Kottakkal, on the National Highway 17. Tirur Railway Station is the closest railhead.
