Kaalaiyeeswar Temple




Kaalaiyeesar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. This Shivasthalam is situated at Tirukkanapper in Sivagangai District. The temple has a 150 ft high Rajagopuram and an imposing Teppakkulam tank. There is a mandapam in the tank known as Aanai madu. Legend has it that the tank was created by the elephant of Lord Indra, Airavatam. The temple has three shrines which are associated with three functions of creation, preservation and completion. The main festivals celebrated here are Kaaleesar's festival in the month of Thai (January–February) and Someswarar's Brahmotsavam celebrated in Vaikasi (May–June). The temple can be accessed from Sivaganga railway station by traveling 18 km.
