Ka-Shad-Kynjoh Khaskain

A Ceremonial Dance



Ka-Shad-Kynjoh Khaskain is a ceremonial dance performed by the Khasis in Meghalaya. This dance is performed mainly to celebrate a house warming or when a family moves into a new built home. After the ritual ceremonies, the dance is performed in three stages. These three stages - Ka Shad Kyuntui, Ka Shad Khalai Miaw and Ka Shad Brap last throughout the night till dawn of the next day. Ka Shad Kyuntui, the first stage starts about mid-day and lasts till sunset. The second stage, Ka Shad Khalai Miaw, begins after sunset. The second stage is played by male performers. The final stage starts after dinner.
