Jugni is a traditional legend song prevalent in
Punjab. The theme of the song is love. This song is mostly performed in fairs, as young men form a gang and sing about their beloved. In most of the performances these days, Jugni is represented as a young beautiful woman wandering from one city to another. In these versions vulgar lyrics are often used.
In older versions, Jugni was considered a devotee of Ali Sahib; the Jugni form came into being after the people started to sing about her. The wandering female concept of Jugni has become much more popular and is performed by most singers. Now-a-days the first case is more common than the second one. Algoza (a pair of wooden flute) is a popular instrument which accompanies the song.
