Johnnie the Baptist was born in a small village called Shirod in the year 1919. The foundation for his music learning was laid by his association with the choir group at St Joseph's Church. Later he went to
Mumbai to learn more about the world of music. He played clarinet for many leading bands and also mastered the tenor and baritone sax. He worked with
Hindi music directors Shankar Jaikishan, Laxmikant Pyarelal, R. D. Burman and others. He regularly played for the Goan Carnival. When his health failed, he handed over his band to his son and renamed it as 'Johnnie Baptist Revival.
