Jhoria is a dance performed during marriages in
Rajasthan. The word ‘jhoria’ means a wooden stick. This dance is performed by both men and women together. It is mainly associated with the
Bhils.
The men and women, holding wooden sticks, form two separate circles. They dance to the music produced by the traditional musical instruments like ‘dhol’ (drum played with hands), ‘shehnai’ (a piped wind instrument) and ‘nagara’ (a huge drum played with sticks). This dance requires speed and a great deal of energy.
