Established in 1980 by the National Education Society, Jawaharlal Nehru National College of Engineering (JNNCE) is located at Navule in
Shimoga. It is recognized by the Naional Board of Accreditation (NBA) and approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and Government of Karnataka.
Affiliated to the Visveswaraiah Technological University, it offers eight undergraduate courses (BE), and post-graduate courses such as M Tech, MCA and MBA. Research and development centers have been started in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and computer science engineering departments.
The college also encourages co-curricular activities, sports, and cultural activities. It has a large multi-purpose playground for football, cricket and athletics, an indoor hall for badminton and table tennis, and a well equipped gymnasium. Separate hostel facilities are available for boys and girls.
