Jarasandha ka Akhara




Jarasandha ka Akhara, sometimes spelt Jarasandh ka Akhada, better known as Ranbhumi which literally means battle field, is located at Rajgir of Nalanda District. Legend has it that this site witnessed one of the most important battles in the Mahabharata war, between Bhim and Jarasandh. In this furious battle Jarasandha was subdued and killed by Bhim. Important archeological sites nearby are Maniyar Math and Sonbhandar Caves. Nearest airport is at Gaya, about 34 km south-west. Gaya Junction Railway Station, on New Delhi-Kolkata rail route, is the nearest railhead.
