Built amidst quaint old abodes on Jamia Street, Jamia Masjid represents the cultural heritage of the people of Bhatkal. It was earlier called Sangian Jamia Masjid. This magnificent mosque dating back to 1447 AD, was renovated several times. An inscription in Persian (1447 AD) is carefully preserved. The present mosque is locally called as ‘Chinnadapalli’ (Golden mosque). It has an imposing gold-plated dome. The Jamia Masjid can accommodate about 5000 worshippers at a time.
