Jal Mahal

Enveloped by Nahargarh Hills, Jal Mahal is located at Gaitore in Jaipur District of Rajasthan. Also famous as Water Palace, it is about 7 km from Jaipur, on the road to Amber opposite the Cenotaphs.

Surrounded by Mansagar Lake, it is reached by a causeway. This island palace was once the royal summer palace. Built by Sawai Jai Singh I in 1799, this palace is noted for its intricate architecture. The significance of this building is that the first four floors are under water and only the top floor remains outside. This palace was also used for the regal duck shooting parties. During the monsoons, the palace’s red sandstone elaborate architecture casting beautiful reflections in the unruffled waters is eye catching.

Jal Mahal can be easily accessed as it is midway on the road from Jaipur to Amber Fort.
