Jain Cave Temples of Ellora




Out of the 34 Ellora cave temples, the caves numbering 30 to 34 belongs to the Jain group. They were built from the 9th century to 11th century and are approachable from Cave 29 or from the Kailash temple (Cave 16).

Among the Jain caves, the Cave 30 (Chhota Kailasa) and Cave 32 (Indrasabha) are the notable ones. The Indrasabha temple is a small version of the Kailash temple. This two-storeyed temple houses imposing figures of Gomateshwara. The notable features of it are the decorated pillars, statue of an elephant, and the images of tirthankars found at the doorway.
