International Kite Flying Festival

International Kite Flying Festival coincides with the festival of Makar Sankranti (January). It is held in the Sardar Patel Stadium at Ahmedabad. This one day event begins at dawn and continues throughout the day.

The lines with which the kites are flown are covered by special mixtures of glue and ground glass. The lines are prepared by experts before the festival. A tremendous variety of kites battling one another for supremacy forms a unique sight. The cries of triumph rend the air when someone cuts the line of a rival. This festival draws kite flyers from all over the world. The whole city is alive during the festival. An exotic variety of kites are available at the Patang Bazaar.

A festival of religious significance, it marks the ascendancy of the sun to the Northern Hemisphere. This festival is also celebrated in the regions of Delhi, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.
