Indira Kala Sangit Vishwavidyalaya, a State University, is located at Khairagarh in
Rajnandgaon District.
This is the only university of performing and visual arts in south-east Asia and offers various courses related to diverse art forms such as classical vocal music (Hindustani and Carnatic), classical instrumental music (Hindustani and carnatic), classical dance styles (Kathak and Bharatanatyam), folk dance and music, painting, sculpture and graphics including other subjects such as History of Indian art and culture and various literatures.
It has 45 affiliated colleges, one affiliated research center and numerous recognized examination centers throughout India. The university museum, an integral part of the Department of History of Indian Art and Culture, has several archaeological remains and art pieces. A mini Classical and Folk Musical-Instrument Gallery attracts a number of visitors.
