Idu tribe is noted for their dances including ritual and fertility dances. The ritual dance, associated with the priestly office, is performed by the priests and is generally played on the occasions of Ai-ah, Ai-him, Mesalah and Rren. The fertility dance forms the major attraction of the Rren ceremony and is performed on the last day of the ceremony.
During the ritual dance, the dancers, apart from the priest, stand in a line and the priest is the second either from the right or left. A dancer standing at one end plays a small drum and the priest and the other two dancers play single-membrane drum striking it with a bamboo stick. If there are five performers, the priest stands in the middle and sings an invocation song while the others play musical instruments.
