Iawmusiang

Iawmusiang is the largest Jaintia market located at Jowai, the district headquarters of Jaintia Hills District. It is opposite to the country old collectorate building. The market is held on every eighth day.

Iawmusiang derives its name from the sacred stone inside the market which has been brought here from Nangbah, in ancient times. People respect this stone and regularly offer puja to the stone, especially before the annual Behdienkhlam festival.

The site of the temporary gallows set up for the execution of the immortal Jaintia Martyr U Kiang Nangbah in 1862, now lies within the Iawmusiang market place.
