Matheran is well connected by direct rail service from both Mumbai and Pune up to Neral, a station at the bottom of the hill, from where a toy train is available to the hill top. As motor vehicles are not allowed within the main town area of Matheran, further journey from Dastoori is possible only by means of a trek on foot or horse back or by hand pulled rickshaws.
