Honnavalli is located in the western part of
Tumkur District in
Karnataka. It is around 80 km west of
Tumkur, the district headquarters.
Tiptur is 13 km south-east and
Arsikere is 15 km west of Honnavalli.
The history of Honnavalli dates back to the eleventh century. A fort was built around the place by Harnahalli Pallegars before the dawn of 11th century. Remnants of the fort are still seen here. Nearly nineteen temples are found in this region. 'Honnavalli Amma' is the presiding deity. The place also served as a taluk headquarters till 1889. Honnavalli is also known as 'The Land of Gold’ and is the main commercial center for the surrounding villages. Coconut is the main crop in this region. Turuvekere is a tourist spot nearby.
Honnavalli Road Railway Station is on the on the Tiptur-Arsikere rail route. Nearest airport is Bangalore International Airport.
